Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Los Angeles was home to an estimated 2 million people in danger of food insecurity. The pandemic has exponentially increased this crisis. Local food banks have already seen a tripling of demand, which will only worsen as unemployment continues to skyrocket. While the state and city are directing some attention and money to this issue, so much needs to be done. This is why Ready to Help Mutual Aid Community Network is partnering with World Harvest Food Bank to support fellow Angelenos by providing food certificates that can be exchanged for a free shopping cart of groceries at World Harvest’s store.

World Harvest Food Bank operates as a social supermarket, supporting working people with affordable groceries. We are working together to offer certificates for free groceries in recognition of the extraordinary economic devastation of the Covid19 Pandemic.

We raised $2000 in our first three days, enough money to cover 45 food certificates. Anyone can sign up for a food certificate; sign-up via an online form, wait for confirmation, and World Harvest will verify your information when you checkout for free groceries.

In the face of the COVID-19 crisis, more and more people are flocking to community organizations and mutual aid networks, driven by a desire to connect, find support and help. “Mutual aid is when people get together to meet each other’s basic survival needs with a shared understanding that the systems we live under are not going to meet our needs and that we can do it together right now.” Ready to Help is proud to be one of many organizing and mutual aid efforts in Los Angeles and hopes that you will help us promote this cause.
